Our Mission
To experience the love of Christ and make Him known.

We are a community of believers where people can come to know the grace and love of Jesus Christ. There is no shame, no guilt, no sin that Jesus has not paid the price for on the cross. Because of Jesus, we all can return home to the arms of our Heavenly Father.

+ Our History

From a small Bible study group in 1966 came the birth of the Chinese United Methodist Church (CUMC). Meeting at the historic Five Points Mission building on the corner of Madison Street and Catherine Street, the Chinese-speaking Bible study grew into a church with both Chinese and English language ministries serving the Lower East Side community.

On May 1, 2016, the English language ministry was renamed ARISE with the purpose of reaching the next generation with the message of God's love and grace.

+ Our Beliefs

We believe in one Almighty God, who is the creator and ruler of all. We believe God externally exists and as revealed Himself in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

We believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was born of a virgin through the power of the Holy Spirit.

We believe Jesus was crucified and died for our sins on the cross, but on the third day, He rose from the grave. We believe He ascended into heaven and sits now at the right hand of the Father, and will come again to judge the living and the dead.

We believe in the Holy Spirit that dwells in every follower of Christ. We believe its presence in the world is to convict us of sin, guide us into truth, and remind us of what Jesus did and taught.

We believe the church is the early representation of Christ's body. We believe the church must live for the Glory of God, and bear witness to the death and resurrection of Christ.

We believe in salvation by grace is God's gift to us. We believe it is received when we repent of our sins and trust in the finished work of Christ on the cross.

We believe in the resurrection of the body and eternal life.

We believe the Bible is God's word to all people and a powerful guide for His church. We believe the Bible was written by human authors and inspired by the Holy Spirit.
